Alveera Patel's profile

Tarabela, Himachal Pradesh

Tarabela, a luxury farmhouse with four bed and breakfast cottages provide tourists visiting Himachal  Pradesh an opportunity to experience living in a traditional Himachali house.
Here is a walk through that I had created for the client to have a realistic experience of the project during my internship period at Imarat Architects in 2019.
This project was executed after extensive research on the vernacular houses of Himachal Pradesh. The Kath-Kuni technique of construction was an inspiration for the planning of the farmhouse. The client demanded smaller cottages to house the visitors which were strategically placed along the contours of the site. The use of pure natural materials right from grainy adobe mud bricks to smooth mud plasters of walls, local squared river-rocks for the foundations, and bamboo-slate sloping roofs not only enhanced the appearance but also motivated the visitors to take a step toward sustainable living. I'm pleased to be a part of this project and work so closely with earth construction techniques.
